Volunteer Program
Since 1965, the Deaconess Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary has provided extraordinary care and compassion to the hospital's patients. Over the years, they have made nearly 45,000 caps for newborn babies and an equal amount of puppets for young patients. Their efforts have raised more than $2 million to purchase many important pieces of hospital equipment.

Representatives of the Deaconess Volunteer Auxiliary present a grant check to Mary Brown of the Even Start Program. In 2005, the Volunteer Auxiliary awarded $200,000 in grants to community-service organizations.
However, ask our volunteers and they will say that they are the ones who benefit from the positive feelings of good will and interaction with patients and families.
The Deaconess Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary began with 29 members. Today, it is more than 250 members strong. With men and women ranging in age from 18 to 95 who serve in more than 30 areas throughout Deaconess Hospital and Deaconess at Bethany, these volunteers contribute approximately 60,000 hours each year. More than 1.6 million hours have been contributed since the group's inception.
