Cardiopulmonary Services
The Cardiopulmonary Services Department at Deaconess Hospital provides service to both inpatients and outpatients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As our name implies, we care for patients with heart and lung problems. The skilled and caring staff provide our patients with the following services.
Heart:
- Electrocardiogram (EKG) records, on graph paper, the electrical impulses traveling through the heart. the purpose is to evaluate the heart's function, to determine the presence of abnormal electrical impulses and to detect heart damage.
- Echocardiogram is a test in which ultrasound is used to examine the heart, which provides the physician with important information about the size of the chambers of the heart and the pumping function of the heart.
- Holter Monitoring is a type of electrocardiogram (ECK or EKG) used to monitor the ECG tracing continuously for a period of 24 hours or longer.
- Transesophageal Echocardiogram allows the cardiologist to view the internal structures of the heart and the heart's major vessels. This test will help the physician evaluate the patient's cardiac condition related to any congenital defects, heart valve disease or heart muscles disease.
Lungs:
- Bronchoscopies
- Pulmonary Function Test is a series of tests that measure lung function. The tests provide information about the amount of air that a person's lungs can hold, and how effectively the lungs work. The test can be used to diagnose respiratory conditions including asthma.
- Respiratory Therapy
- Better Breathers meetings (2nd Wednesday of every month)
Brain:
- Electroencephalogram (EEG) detects abnormalities in the brain waves or electrical activity of the brain.
