March 20, 2007
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Colorectal cancer awareness is the focus of a free, community talk at Deaconess Hospital.
Join Matthew McBride, MD, a board-certified gastroenterologist at Deaconess, as he discusses colorectal cancer prevention and treatment on Thursday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Medical Office Building North, lower level, 5701 N. Portland.
“At Deaconess, gastroenterologists perform more than 3,500 procedures annually, aimed at colon cancer prevention and early detection,” Dr. McBride said. “Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. Most of these cases are preventable with proper screening.”
Research has shown that people with certain risk factors are more likely to develop colorectal cancer. A risk factor is anything linked to an increased chance of developing the disease.
Risk factors for colorectal cancer include:
- Age
- Family history
- Diet
- Cigarette smoking
"Deaconess is tackling colon cancer head-on with top diagnostic and treatment procedures related to disorders and diseases of the gastrointestinal system,” Dr. McBride stated.
